The path to becoming a teacher of Tai Chi begins with enrolling as an NSSTC student & studying the Yang Family Short Form.
When the indications are that you are starting to embody the principles of this Tai Chi lineage you would be invited to become an assistant for NSSTC classes.
As an assistant
teacher you would be expected to attend & support regular weekly classes, teacher meetings and training workshops.
Once ready you could then begin to learn the Long Form & undertake classes in Push Hands & Ta Lu.
There
is not a knowable time frame for how long this process might take. Certainly enthusiastic & committed students could possibly become an assistant NSSTC teacher after a year of training & a thorough knowledge of the Short Form.
To evolve into a certified teacher for NSSTC
will certainly take a number of years because we know & appreciate that teachers of Tai Chi need to be of the highest quality.
Since NSSTC was founded in 2003 it has produced 2 fully qualified teachers, Teri McNamara & Andy Katzung. It is currently training 3 assistant teachers, Peter Lund, Amanda Degener & Tom Lieberman.
NSSTC has another specific training program which enables anyone with no previous experience of Tai Chi to become a VaW™ instructor. See the Vitality at Work™ page on this website.
There are currently 6 qualified
VaW™ instructors in Minneapolis.
